Provincial Activities - Eastern Province
Eastern Province of Zambia is divided into eight districts of which it has 19 constituencies. It has a population of 1,300,973 from the Census 2000. Of this population, 49.4 percent are male and 50.6 percent are female. Eastern province has an average annual population growth rate of 2.6 percent. It is evident that poverty in Eastern Province has become a social and economic crisis of huge proportion, denying the majority of the people a decent standard of living. Hunger, sickness and disease including HIV/AIDS, are claiming more lives.
