North Western Province has a population of 727,044 out of which 368,903 are women while 358,141 are male. The population density is approximately 5.8% while the population growth rate stands at 2.2%. Solwezi which is the Provincial headquarters is a fast growing town with mining activities expanding rapidly in the town. North Western is the sixth poorest province after Luapula, Western, Eastern, Northern, and Southern provinces respectively with a population living in poverty at 67%. Solwezi is a fast growing town with mining activities contributing to the nation’s wealth. Pineapple growing is one other economic activity of the Province.
The Province has a lot of potential for tourism development and mining.
